by Martha Robinson
March 4, 2007
Philadelphia, PA
Group Motion Dance Company
presents
INSIDE DANCE
A unique look at the inside of dance!

Sunday, March 4th from 5-7pm
Community Education Center
3500 Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia (University City District)

Philadelphia, PA – Group Motion's Inside Dance allows participants to experience the creative process first-hand. Participants will have the opportunity to view the company's performance of a repertory piece (Group Motion will be showing an excerpt of their newest work Quest which premiered March 15-16th at the Arts Bank). Participants will be introduced to the improvisational and compositional structures used in the creation of the piece. Subsequently, participants are invited to either observe or actively participate in a reconstruction process. Finally, when the piece is shown again, participants are able to re-examine the performance with a new understanding. Quest is a collaboration with Philadelphia's Network for New Music and boasts work by renowned composer George Crumb and Philadelphia composer David Ludwig.

This is an exciting opportunity to get an inside look at the innovative and vibrant work that Group Motion is creating! Tickets for this event go on sale February 19th and $10 for students and $20 general admission. To purchase tickets or other information about the workshop/performance, please call (215-387-9895) or e-mail (mrobinson@groupmotion.org).

Group Motion Multi Media Dance Theatre is now a professional dance theater company of versatile artists, melding dance, theater, music and visual arts into a provocative performance experience. Founded in 1968 by co-directors Manfred
Fischbeck, Brigitta Herrmann and Hellmut Gottschild, Group Motion pioneered what was originally known as "multi-media dance/theater." The diverse company, under the sole artistic direction of Manfred Fischbeck since 1989, carries members chosen for their technical and creative abilities – choreographers in their own rights – regularly contributing to a body of over 45 dance theater pieces. From historic appearances at the Judson Church in New York to sold-out international tours to countries including Germany, France, Argentina, Japan and Taiwan, Group Motion Company has been at the forefront of contemporary dance since its inception. ? Group Motion's mission to make dance accessible to all people guides the company's work as well as the various workshops the company offers. The infamous Friday Night Workshop, running every Friday night for almost 35 years is an example of improvisational movement and music made accessible to people of all walks of life.

Group Motion is funded in part by William Penn Foundation; Dance Advance, a program funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by University of the Arts; The Japan Foundation; The Japan-US Friendship Commission; Pennsylvania Council of the Arts/Arts Midwest; PennPat (Pennsylvania Performing Artists on Tour); and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund.
