Bio:
Lydia Zimmer, a native to Nova Scotia, Canada, graduated from Walnut Hill School in '07 and joined the Boston Conservatory Dance Division where she received her B.F.A. '11 Magna Cum Laude on The Conservatory Scholarship. Lydia has trained at programs such as Canada's National Ballet School, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Jacob's Pillow Contemporary Traditions, The Movement Invention Project, and Springboard Danse Montreal. Lydia is currently a freelance dance artist in LA and ballet teacher at Talent Lab in West Lake Village. Lydia performs as an improvisation dancer in both solo and group settings internationally and she hopes to bring a new voice to the improvisation scene in LA.

Here are Lydia's thoughts on what she tries to accomplish as a solo artist:
I strongly believe in the presence of improvisation as a foundation to completing movement thoughtfully and originally. When moving alone in a space, I try to accomplish an ever-changing movement vocabulary that is true to my heart and body. Improvising is a vulnerable activity and can leave one feeling scared, when this happens habitual movements take over the process. There are of course 'blueprints' that I create for myself that involve physical and emotional actions which help keep me on track. Staying experimental on stage is a task I hold to myself as a performer, believing the possibilities of movement are infinite.
