AfterWork Theater presents 'Urinetown the Musical!' - Nov. 13-22

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit, and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

Urinetown the Musical! runs November 13th-November 22nd at the 14th Street Y - 344 East 14th Street New York, NY 10003. Our next two seasons include, Sing Out: Gender-Benders! a musical revue cast with a non-gender-conforming flair, and Stephen Schwartz's Godspell. Registration is open for anyone who wants to join. Learn more, sign up to be in shows, and purchase tickets at afterworktheater.com

AfterWork Theater is a non-profit, tuition-based organization launched to provide everyday people with the opportunity to rehearse and perform fully-staged plays and musicals in New York City. No audition required.

Since our founding in 2011, AfterWork Theater has attracted more than 300 participants from across the NY metropolitan area and beyond to perform professional-style productions such as Hair, Rent, and The Laramie Project, plus three cabaret-style musical revues all in Manhattan. We create inclusive performance opportunites for many members of the senior community as well as disabled participants. Additionally, we offer free workshops to the public. Our community members are an incredibly diverse yet cohesive bunch, running the gamut from working professionals - educators, marketing execs, lawyers, you name it - to retirees, to stay-at-home moms and everything in between. What unites us all is the desire to share in AfterWork Theater's core values: fun, diversity, and creative self-expression.
