August 14, 2018
Town Stages
221 W Broadway, New York, NY 10013
Town Stages announces a Hustle Masterclass with Maria Torres on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 6pm, with a Hustle Dance Social starting at 8pm. Tickets are $25 for the Masterclass, $10 for the Social, or $30 for both, and are available at https://hustledancemasterclass.splashthat.com.

Join Maria Torres as she teams up with Waack To The Future & Wise Fruit to offer a special Hustle Dance Masterclass & Social at Town Stages. Rediscover one of the most popular social dances born from New York's own Latin community-THE HUSTLE-in this dynamic two hour workshop focused on the partnering technique of "Lead and Follow" with an emphasis on the musicality, speed and syncopation of the dance. Then stay for the dance social with DJ KS 360 and drink specials!

A clip of last month's class is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Y7wbftJ8o&t=32s.

Maria's Hustle choreography can be seen on Broadway in Donna Summer The Musical and in the touring production of Broadway's On Your Feet, among others.

"The Hustle" is a catchall name for some disco dances that were extremely popular in the 1970s. Today it mostly refers to the unique partner dance done in ballrooms and nightclubs to disco music. It has some features in common with Mambo and swing dance. Its basic steps are somewhat similar to the Disco fox, which emerged at about the same time and is more familiar in various European countries. In the 1970s there was also a line dance called "The Hustle." Modern partner hustle is sometimes referred to as "New York Hustle." People still do this dance today.
