Works & Process at the Guggenheim
presents Emma Portner with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago/Third Coast Percussion, and Anne Plamondon. Sunday and Monday, September 9 and 10, 2018 at 7:30pm

"we're constantly in awe of Emma Portner" - Dance Spirit

"Hubbard Street Dance Chicago ought to bottle itself as a cure for the ills of the era" - The New York Times

"To say that Devonté Hynes, the singer and songwriter who goes by Dev Hynes and who, under the name Lightspeed Champion, has delivered two albums of richly eclectic pop, is a high achiever is a bit of an understatement"
- The New Yorker

"[Third Coast Percussion's] collaborative spirit has already made them one of the best percussion ensembles in the country-and their upcoming projects could make them the biggest."
- Chicago Reader

Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presents Emma Portner with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago / Devonté Hynes & Third Coast Percussion, and Anne Plamondon on Sunday and Monday, September 9 and 10, 2018 at 7:30pm.

Emma Portner, described by Dance Spirit as a young choreographer "changing the dance world," shares highlights from her upcoming Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (HSDC) commission with new music by Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange) performed by Third Coast Percussion, and from her duet with Anne Plamondon, commissioned by Fall for Dance North (FFDN), prior to their respective premieres in Chicago and Toronto. Portner also screens her newest dance film, FEMME DEBOUT commissioned by Fondation Beyeler and The Creator Class/Free Studios on the occasion of their exhibition Bacon-Giacometti. As part of the program, Portner, Plamondon and HSDC artistic director Glenn Edgerton will discuss their collaboration in a discussion moderated by FFDN artistic director Ilter Ibrahimof.

Works & Process at the Guggenheim
Described by The New York Times as "an exceptional opportunity to understand something of the creative process," for over 34 years and in over 500 productions, New Yorkers have been able to see, hear, and meet the most acclaimed artists in the world, in an intimate setting unlike any other. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, has championed new works and offered audiences unprecedented access to generations of leading creators and performers. Most performances take place in the Guggenheim's intimate Frank Lloyd Wright-designed 285-seat Peter B. Lewis Theater. In 2017, Works & Process established a new residency and commissioning program, inviting artists to create new works, made in and for the iconic Guggenheim rotunda. worksandprocess.org.
