New York Theatre Ballet Announces Keith Michael's "The Nutcracker" as part of the 2018-19 Once Upon a Ballet performances

New York Theatre Ballet announces the company's 2018-19 performances of their critically acclaimed Once Upon a Ballet series geared to audiences ages 3 and up and running time of one hour for young attention spans. This season's offerings include: Keith Michael's "The Nutcracker" from December 14-16, 2018 and "Cinderella" February 9 & 10, 2019 at Florence Gould Hall, 55 E 59th St, New York, NY 10022. Single tickets: $27 adults $15 children, for both Nutcracker and Cinderella: $20 adults $12 children, www.nytb.org/calendar-and-tickets.

From clockwork imps to a luminous owl that flies above the audience, mice dressed in polka dots and dancers dancing with huge chopsticks, this timeless, re-imagined classic bursts with energy and excitement. This holiday ballet, danced to Tchaikovsky's beloved score, is set in Art Nouveau style circa 1907 with choreography by choreographer Keith Michael; set design by Gillian Bradshaw-Smith; and costumes by Resident Costume Designer of the Metropolitan Opera, Sylvia Taalsohn Nolan.

A dancing clock, two wacky stepsisters, and everyone's favorite rags to riches princess are all part of this traditional enchanting story! A perennial favorite of NYTB audiences across America,  "Cinderella" is one-hour in length with choreography by Donald Mahler, costumes by Sylvia Taalson Nolan, and set design by Gillian Bradshaw-Smith.

DIANA BYER, FOUNDER AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Diana Byer is the founder and Artistic Director of New York Theatre Ballet and Ballet School NY. She is a répétiteur for The Antony Tudor Trust, a member of the Board of Directors of the Dance Notation Bureau, an Education Ambassador for The New York Pops, on the Dance Portal Advisory Board of The Children's Museum of Manhattan, and on the Selection Committees of The Bessies and Clive Barnes Awards. She has staged the ballets of Antony Tudor for American Ballet Theatre and The Hartt School and the ballets of Agnes de Mille for the Alabama Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. She coached the principals for the Columbia Pictures film, Center Stage.
