On Saturday nights Blue Angel has a live band playing Cuban Salsa. The lesson started at 9:30 pm and the band started at about 10:30 pm. The band, Afro-Caribe, was very lively and danceable. Blue Angel took the sensible precaution of serving drinks in plastic cups, but almost no one was dancing with their cup in their hand. :) Everyone was dancing lively, some with expertise, but when the band played a slow number at the end of the first set, everyone reverted to clutch and sway. Does no one dance Bolero?

The lesson: Becky, the teacher, taught a well balanced lesson. It was geared for newcomers, but had enough variation to keep an advanced dancer interested. The teaching had just enough "authenticity" to give the lesson bite, but not so much that it was off-putting.

The Blue Angel used to be a cabaret theatre. The dance floor was spacious and good to dance on. Since people come to a place like this to dance, listen to the music, and to drink, the decor wasn't an issue, but the honest truth is the place could use a little sprucing up. Unlike some clubs where you need to bring your own partner or you will never get to dance, people were willing to dance with people who they didn't know. It was unclear if Blue Angel serves food. If you do get there before the doors open, I suggest you go next door to Babalu and have a drink. The decor is very sleek and modern, so it makes the waiting more pleasant.

Blue Angel is worth going back to.
