Philadelphia, PA – Group Motion continues their 38th Season with a weekend festival of improvisation, performance and community. The Festival, held at the Community Education Center in University City, brings together the groundbreaking work of the Group Motion Dance Company and the community aspects of the Group Motion workshop. Join us for our weekly Friday Night Workshop on Friday, December 8 from 8-10pm with dancers and non-dancers alike and live music! On Saturday, December 9 and Sunday, December 10 at 8pm join us for the stunning Group Motion Dance Company as they present RONDO, a fresh, new presentation of the company's work infused with video work. Group Motion's annual Benefit Party with live music, raffle items, food and drink will follow Saturday night's performance. On Sunday, December 10 at 3pm join us for DREAM RELATED, a dance/movement ritual which features community dancers who have been rehearsing a performance of structured improvisation.

Group Motion's Friday Night Workshop has been an exhilarating and inviting event for over 30 years, exploring and expanding the boundaries of dance and spirituality. Join dancers and non-dancers, first-timers and old-timers alike as we celebrate and share the transformative power of dance/movement in a playful, safe environment with LIVE MUSIC!

With RONDO, Group Motion presents the Philadelphia premiere of the technologically creative collaboration between Tokyo's Leni-Basso Dance Company and Group Motion. Also on the program is "Screen 4," an excerpt from Group Motion's 2005 performance of Screen, choreographed by Group Motion's Company Co-director Silvana Cardell; and "From Above Earth," an excerpt from the 2006 Live Arts premiere of Exitus, choreographed by Group Motion's Artistic Director Manfred Fischbeck.

For Group Motion's semi-annual performance project; DREAM RELATED presents an intergenerational group of dancers, musicians and community members who have come together to create this dance/movement ritual, based on improvisational performance scores and inspired by dream processes. Friends, family and community members are invited to share in this exciting and moving presentation and celebration.

Group Motion Multi Media Dance Theatre is a professional dance theater company of versatile artists, melding dance, theater, music and visual arts into a provocative performance experience. Founded in 1968 by co-directors Manfred Fischbeck, Brigitta Herrmann and Hellmut Gottschild, Group Motion pioneered what was originally known as "multi-media dance/theater." The diverse company, under the sole artistic direction of Manfred Fischbeck since 1989, carries members chosen for their technical and creative abilities – choreographers in their own rights – regularly contributing to an extensive body of dance theater pieces. From historic appearances at the Judson Church in New York to international tours to countries including Germany, France, Argentina, Japan, Poland and Cyprus, Group Motion Company has been at the forefront of contemporary dance since its inception. Through international collaborations such as the 2005 partnership with renowned Tokyo choreographer Akiko Kitamura and a notable upcoming collaboration with prominent Argentinean choreographer, Oscar Araiz, Group Motion continues to expose this important art form to new audiences in Philadelphia and throughout the world. Group Motion's mission to make dance accessible to all people guides the company's work as well as the various workshops the company offers. The Friday Night Workshop, running every Friday night for almost 35 years is an example of improvisational movement and music made accessible to people of all walks of life.

Group Motion is funded in part by William Penn Foundation; Dance Advance, a program funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts and administered by University of the Arts; The Japan-US Friendship Commission; Pennsylvania Council of the Arts/Arts Midwest; PennPat (Pennsylvania Performing Artists on Tour); and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund.
