An announcement recently crossed my desk that the Sicis Company, maker of mosaic tiles, has installed a display of elaborate mosaics in honor of the New York City Ballet. I happen to be very into mosaics. I love the mosaics in the New York City Subway, both the old ones and the new ones. I agonized over exactly which tiles and stone to use in the backsplash when I redid the kitchen in my apartment; I went to three tile stores before I found just the right ones, and a couple of tiles I bought as samples I kept just because they were too cool (even if they were too expensive to use in quantity). As the photos below show, these mosaics are truly art. Obviously, I can't critique the quality of the individual tiles themselves without going to the showroom, but based on what I have seen so far, I am definitely going to check out this exhibit. And you never know… I have been meaning to do something with my bathroom. The opening event for this exhibit was a dinner hosted by Darci Kistler, Peter Martins, Fe and Alessandro Saracino Fendi, and Morena and Maurizio Placuzzi to celebrate the 2007 NYCB Winter Season with an exhibit of mosaic panels created in honor of the New York City Ballet. Among those attending included Barbara Cirkva, Alexandra Lebenthal, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mishaan, Peter Bacanovic, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Rockefeller, Susan Tabak, Bettina Zilkha and NY City Ballet dancers including Albert Evans, Tom Gold and Maria Kowroski.
