I went to Connolly's for Rona Kaye's anniversary party. If you are looking for a lot of line dancing (much to Country music, but not all), some Country Western Two-Step and Cha-Cha, and a little bit of West Coast Swing in New York City, this is the place. There were about 30 people there. Rona had to be out of town due to a family emergency, so they will have a cake next week.

I am always on the look out for new steps with cool names. I found one tonight. There is a sequence called the Wizard Step that was incorporated into a line dance called One. The Wizard Step looked like a hook behind lock step, but with a wider stance. It is supposed to look like Dorothy skipping down the Yellow Brick Road towards the Wizard of Oz, hence the name. (Every country song seems to have its own line dance, and people who go to these events seem to know most of them. This dance is actually to the song of the same name by the Bee Gees and was choreographed by Junior Willis and Amy Brockman. Don't worry if you don't know the dances as the price of admission - only $13 per person - includes dance lessons in three different line dances, and they often provide helpful written guides to what they taught.)

One of the nice things about this event is that Connolly's is one of the few dance venues in New York City that serves dinner. You can have a well prepared meal with ample portions at the bar or at a table, listen to the music, watch the dancers, and get out there yourself. Everyone is very friendly too. I am not a hard core Country Western dancer myself, but I definitely enjoy going to this event every so often. If you are a hard core Country Western dancer, you will want to make Rona Kaye's Pure Country dance event at Connolly's a regular stop on your dance circuit.
