Robert Abrams, of ExploreDance.com, Lucille Yokell, Director of Sales & Marketing, Wellington Hotel, and I met for a leisurely lunch today at the always elegant and refined NorthWest, in New York's renowned Upper West Side. In fact, the sidewalk dining (and today's warm weather brought out a bustling lunch crowd) looks right at the Museum of Natural History, across Columbus Avenue. Lucille dined on fresh, Maryland lump crab cakes and then a frittata with parmesan and vegetables. Robert dined on hot butternut squash soup and a NorthWest steak burger and fries. I was thrilled with my arugula with caramelized poached pear, melted gorgonzola cheese, and macadamia sherry vinaigrette, followed by grilled salmon. For desserts, several conversations later, Lucille and I enjoyed Ciao Bella ice cream and sorbet, and Robert ordered his favorite tiramisu. Espressos and cappuccinos followed. Call 212.799.4530 and ask for Matt, the proprietor. NorthWest is perfect after the two Audubon exhibits at the nearby museums, after a night at Lincoln Center, or just for a leisurely lunch. Now is the time to people watch at Matt's sidewalk cafe. Tell him you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com and ExploreDance.com.
