Gehring Dancetheatre's best material and dancers can go head to head with any modern dance company. Heather Gehring has great balance, often on one leg for at least a minute. Jamie Harrison seems to hang in the air. She has very fluid movements. I especially liked the "Excerpt from Ruth: The Journey", with music by Peter Gabriel, choreography by Heather Gehring and danced by Heather Gehring and Jamie Harrison. They moved smoothly without quiver through an extended range of motion. This was an excellent example of Ms. Gehring's choreography. It showed off her yoga influenced style of modern dance (power yoga dance, for lack of a better term) and was thoroughly compelling throughout.
Ms. Gehring also excels at putting on a great event, not just a great show. This event cost $25 at the door or $20 in advance. The admission included the show, an open bar with beer, wine and EANABs (that's short for Equally Attractive Non-Alcoholic Beverages), a wide variety of plentiful food, and social dancing after the show. As a total package, the Gehring Dancetheatre's Fall Preview was excellent value. Her audience knows how to dance too.
