New York Giants Super Bowl XLII Victory Celebration - Review of the Casio EX-Z1080 Digital Camera

I had two last features to test in the Casio EX-Z1080 digital camera: the 3X zoom lens, and the battery performance.

The New York Giants helped create the perfect opportunity to test the zoom lens by winning Super Bowl XLII (the most important Super Bowl ever if you are into science fiction). I happened to be across the street as some of the players made their way to City Hall for the ceremony. I snapped a few photos using the Casio with its default auto settings, and the zoom pushed to the telephoto end. The result was crisp focus with good color (good color being Giants' blue, red and white). I have included both the full photos and details from some of the shots to show that at the largest image size, the Casio captured enough information to create useable close-ups from such zoomed shots. Not every shot was as crisp as these, but enough shots came out well to keep me satisfied. One might want a longer zoom in these circumstances, but for my purposes the zoom was long enough. As I have said before, the Casio EX-Z1080 is small enough to comfortably fit into my pocket without creating a bulge. To me, the small size is more important than the occasional use I might make of a longer zoom.

Finally, how many photos can the Casio take on a single charge? The answer, obtained with so much effort that my index finger is sore, is that the Casio EX-Z1080 can take 1716 photos, plus a small number of videos, on a single battery charge. Most of these photos were taken with the flash set to fire no matter what. After that, the camera had just enough power left to turn itself on, tell me that the battery was low, and turn itself off. It probably will not get that number of photos on every charge given that most batteries tend to lose some capacity as they are reused, and actual performance will vary depending on how much the zoom is in motion, as well as various other variables, but even if in practice the camera only delivered half of 1716 flash photos, this would still be excellent performance that would get you through many a dance party or ticker tape parade.

Now if we could only figure out what it would take to have a team of dancers of any style earn a ticker tape parade up the Canyon of Heroes.
