Dior and ELLE hosted a cocktail party and benefit sale in honor of Christopher Wheeldon, who is stepping down as New York City Ballet's resident choreographer after several very fruitful and creative years. Dior sells high-end fashion that can best be described as "classic." The yellow dress below, as just one example, is diaphanous, yet substantive. The stitching looked solid, yet discreet. It was entirely appropriate to hold the event at the Dior boutique since Mr. Wheeldon's choreography is often classic, yet contemporary. Mr. Wheeldon gave a short speech. He was articulate and gracious, striking all the right notes. By the time he was done, the elegant guests were thinking, "I really should get a dress or handbag from Dior so that I can then attend the New York City Ballet and Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company." Mr. Wheeldon is truly an ambassador for dance.
