Getting Ready - recommended performances for Spring in New York City

Time to choose from a list of dance attractions that you will want to see during the Spring season. Major and small groups have booked one year ahead so their performances are secure.

Next week, The Isadora Duncan Dance Company under the direction of Lori Belilove will be performing at the Judson Church, 55 Washington Square South, March 11-15. This group devoted to the works of interpretive artist, Duncan, presents 2 programs, A: masterworks choreographed by Duncan and B: works that are "more young audience friendly." Belilove has been remarkable in preserving Duncan's contribution to the legacy of dance. For more information: www.isadoraduncan.org.

Paul Taylor Dance Company, continues at City Center on 55th Street, through March 15. His program contains favorites such as "Arden Court," and "Private Domain." Contact: www.NYCityCenter.org.

Batsheva Dance Company, directed by Ohad Naharin ends it run on March 7 at BAM in Brooklyn. Founded in 1963 and originally sponsored by Bethsabee de Rothchild, is now backed by State of Israel funds. It made its debut in 1964 in Tel Aviv. BDC has a history of having sponsored Martha Graham in the '60s and '70s. Its major support is now from the Jerome Robbins Foundation, Inc. Call: 718-636-4100.

Juilliard Dance Repertory will feature the works of Mark Morris, Twyla Tharp and Ohad Naharin, March 25, 26, 27 and 29 at the Peter Sharp Theater at 3.p.m. Tickets available at the Juilliard Box office, half-price for students and seniors.

New York City Ballet's 2009 season begins April 28 with an all Balanchine program. The repertoire, including 40 ballets, performs until June 21 at the new David H. Koch Theater, Columbus Avenue and 63rd Street. PBS's "Live from Lincoln Center" will broadcast Peter Martins' "Romeo + Juliet" on Thursday, May 21, nationwide.
Full-length works include Balanchine's version of "Coppélia," and his "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
The season will also feature a world premiere of NYCB's principal dancer Benjamin Millepied and Jiri Bubenicek, principal dancer with the Dresden SemperOper Ballet on May 13.

The Martha Graham Dance Company plays May 12-16 at the Skirball Center at LaGuardia Place, Washington Square. Program A, 5/12, 15 and 16 features Graham's full length "Clytemnestra," a Graham classic based at the time of the Trojan War; B, 5/14 and 5/16 matinee includes three "takes" on "Lamentation," by Aszure Barton, Larry Keigwin and Richard Move; sketches from "Chronicle," Graham's anti-war work; "Errand Into the Maze," and "Maple Leaf Rag." Founded in 1926, MGDC is the oldest and most celebrated modern dance company performing from 181 Graham works. Contact: www.skirballcenter.nyu.edu.

Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co. will give a free special performance on March 11 at 8:00 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, 566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square South. The company deals with "finding a sense of self and calm in the calamity of life." Burgess, synthesizes Eastern and Western aesthetics and has studied the Michio Ito technique (famous Japanese exponent of modern dance, 1892-1962).
