The Downtown Festival, August 17-23 will present 7 days of free performances with 21 companies at Battery Park and Chase Plaza as its 28th annual presentation of shared performances. All performances will end with Everybody Dance NOW!…an invitation to audience members to join onstage and learn a segment from one of the dances they've just watched. It's fun and easy enough for you to feel comfortable. Let's go. At Chase Plaza, Nassau Street between Liberty and Pine via subway, 2, 3, 4, 5, at 12 noon to 2 p.m; two weekends at the Lawn, Battery Park, 8/22 and 8/23, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. August 17, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Dance China; Tuesday 8/18 and 8/23; Rebecca Kelly Ballet 8/18 and 8/23. The Chase Brock Experience, 8/19 and 23; and the Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup, 8/18 and 21. **Don't miss Odissi and Bharatanatyam Indian dance, and the Labyrinth modern dance company. (Modern dance has incorporated many aspects of Indian dance). Wednesday, August 19, Indo-American Arts Council ininvited a variety of Asian dancer in various styles, for a full performance, on the same date. ** Thursday, 8/20 in a full performance by the Kolkha folk dance ensemble from the Republic of Georgia…Russia, that is. The group will also share the 8/22 performance. African and American dance forms in performance, 8/21 and 8/23. Also on the program is Naomi Goldberg-Haas/Dances For A Variable Population, with 14 dancers 8/22 and 8/23. **isadora NOW preserves the work of Isadora, 8/21 and 8/23. **3C Tap Cooperative in upbeat dances to music of Charlie Parker and other greats, 8/21 and 8/22. Figures in Flight Dance Company of young adults with residencies in regional public schools in NY State perform dances to music from Michael Jackson to Prokofiev, 8/22 and 8/23.
