Robert Abrams: What is your role in the show? Lulu Lollipop: I am Lulu Lollipop, director and performer. RA: Please describe the performance you will present at PIFA. LL: The Peek-A-Boo Revue will be taking the audience on a trip to Paris, not the parts of the city that tourists would visit today, but the back alleys and seedy night clubs of the city as it was in 1920. Think topless follies bergiere girls, bottomless gals of the can can, Josephine Baker, ladies of song, and baggy pants comedy, shake it all up, add some glitter and a modern twist, then you will have the Peek-A-Boo Revue. RA: Have you collaborated with anyone to create your PIFA presentation? LL: The Peek-A-Boo Revue is a collaboration. There are 22 people in the troupe, we include the input of each member in order to create every show. RA: What has this collaboration allowed you to achieve that would not have been possible without it? LL: Without our constant group collaboration our show would not have been able to run for 13 years! RA: In your art that you are presenting at PIFA, what is unexpected? LL: The cast of the Peek-A-Boo Revue creates a fun filled and exciting show each and everytime. Between our hysterical hosts, our chanteusse Tracey Todd Superstar, and our line of chorus girls, we will transport you to a place that you never knew existed. Be forewarned, the cast may steal your drinks, kiss you on the mouth and douse you with glitter. It's a guarantee that you will laugh so hard you may pee a little, that you will be back every time The Peek-A-Boo Revue performs in a town near you, and that you will fall in love more then once on April 30th. RA: What is "new" about the art you are presenting at PIFA? LL: We consider ourselves a classic vaudeville neo-burlesque troupe. We create and perform what could be considered a modern day vaudeville show. We produce a new show about 6 times a year. The Striptease Orchestra, our 9 piece jazz ensemble led by Buzz Mouthpiece provides an excellent backdrop for what we do. For this particular show Buzz has outdone himself again with an all original opener. April 30th will be the World Premiere of "Je Ne Sais Quoi". RA: What is the connection between your show at PIFA and Paris between 1910 and 1920? LL: The Peek-A-Boo Revue is a cabaret show with it's roots based in Vaudeville. Singing, dancing, comedy, and sexy classic striptease was the base of entertainment early in the century. RA: If audience members were seeing your PIFA show for the second time, what should they pay special attention to in order to enhance their appreciation of your art? LL: We have 2 shows scheduled for the evening of April 30th, while the numbers will be the same, it IS live theater, anything can happen so keep your eyes and ears open! RA: Does your art have an activist message? LL: Support live entertainment! Get out from behind your computers, i-pads, phones and experience life. Celebrate and laugh about sex and sexuality. RA: Do you work with schools or children? LL: We don't work with schools of children but we do have The Peek-A-Boo Revue School of Burlesque through Studio Noir. We teach classic striptease, while also teaching confidence, self esteem and body celebration. In time we will be offering costume creation and burlesque history classes. RA: What else would you like people who are thinking about purchasing a ticket to your show to know about your show? LL: Just say yes, you will have the greatest time I promise. I can't count the amount of times I have had people say to me that they usually don't come to "shows like this" but they will never miss another one! We are celebrating the history of live entertainment. With 13 years running, we must be doing something right. To purchase a ticket to this show, go to www.pifa.org/events/980195082.
