announces 2012 Season
KEIGWIN + COMPANY (K+C) announces the company's 2012 season, including two appearances at The Joyce Theater and a return to the Kennedy Center, as well as the premiere of a commission by Artistic Director Larry Keigwin with the Royal Ballet of New Zealand.

The season launches with K+C as part of FOCUS DANCE at The Joyce Theater on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 7:30pm and Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 8pm. The company will perform the acclaimed Runaway, Keigwin's signature work Mattress Suite, and Triptych, a propulsive and vigorous essay on abstraction. FOCUS DANCE, an exciting week-long celebration showcasing eight dance companies, is a new initiative aimed at promoting American dance to the national and international community. The Joyce partners with Gotham Arts Exchange and the Dance/USA Agents Council for this exciting project that will feature some of the most riveting companies in America today. The Joyce Theater is located at 175 Eighth Avenue (at 19th Street). Tickets begin at $10 and can be purchased at joyce.org.

K+C returns to The Joyce Theater later in the year with its annual weeklong season and the world premieres of three new dances on June 12 - 17, 2012. The program will include the company's first commissioned piece for 12 dancers set to a score by electronic composer and collaborator Jonathan Pratt, a new quartet, and the first solo work danced by Larry Keigwin in nearly ten years. Megalopolis, a fun and serious blend of formalism and pop performed to a mash-up of music by Steve Reich and M.I.A, will round out the program. Performance schedule: Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30pm; Thursday through Saturday at 8pm; Sunday at 2pm & 7:30pm. Tickets start at $10 and can be purchased at JoyceCharge at 212-242-0800 or joyce.org.

On Wednesday, February 29, 2012, the Royal Ballet of New Zealand will premiere a new commission by Keigwin. This work will also be a collaboration with composer Adam Crystal, who recently composed the music for the premiere of Balloon Dance. The premiere will take place at The Civic in Auckland, New Zealand. Tickets begin at $35 and are available at www.the-edge.co.nz.

KEIGWIN + COMPANY returns to the Kennedy Center on March 2 & 3, 2012 (after a sold out debut in 2009) with a program that includes the fashion-inspired Runaway, which showcases 12 dancers moving down a runway of light in striking poses and bursts of aggression, set to a driving score by composer Jonathan Pratt. The program will also include audience favorite Love Songs, classical and witty Bird Watching, and Megalopolis. Tickets are $18-55. More information can be found at www.kennedy-center.org.

The company launches its first summer intensive program for aspiring dancers on May 21-25, 2012. "Let's Make A Dance" invites participants to explore the creative process and the rewards of performance alongside professional dancers. Participants will learn to develop their unique voices and hone their skills as collaborative artists, using improvisational and compositional tools in a playful environment. Dancers will explore working as an ensemble while simultaneously learning from and creating with K+C company members. The week culminates in a performance for the professional community. Registration opens in January 2012. For more information, please visit www.keigwinandcompany.com.

As part of the Bates Dance Festival, K+C will develop a new dance, Starstruck, inspired by the Bates College Museum of Art's 2012 multi-disciplinary exhibit Starstruck: Astrophotography. K+C will utilize the exhibit's visuals as a launching point to explore celestial and astrological themes.
