There is a new monthly West Coast Swing night in New York City. Steve Neeren is hosting and DJing what he hopes will become a regular Thursday West Coast Swing night at 1050, a well appointed restaurant a little off the beaten track on Tenth avenue. Tonight was the first night. Steve is planning on holding one party per month. There were about 35 people gliding and spinning down the slot, which was a good showing for a new party.

The back room where the dancing was held was attractively lit. The floor was a little fast, but nonetheless quite danceable. The floor was no where near as fast as the main dance floor at the Cocoanut Grove in Santa Cruz, CA. Steve played mostly West Coast Swing with the occasional Hustle.

All in all, it was an auspicious start for a new party.

The next party will be Thursday, May 13th. There will be a special lesson by Robert Royston from 8 pm to 8:45 pm for only an extra $5. Since Robert is a five time US Open Champion, you are paying only $1 per championship of expertise. That's a hard deal to beat, but Steve decided to try anyway. If you have a Dance Manhattan VIP card, you will pay only $8 for admission to the party. Without the VIP card, admission is $10, which is still a good deal. Plus, unlike some bars, 1050 doesn't charge an arm and a leg for soda, so you can stay hydrated, support the venue and still have money left in the bank. Mixed drinks are more expensive, as is to be expected, but are still reasonable by New York City standards.
