Second Company BHdos to Perform
at the Harlem Meer Performance Festival
September 2, 2012 at the Charles A. Dana Discover Center
Ballet Hispanico, recognized as the preeminent Latino dance institution in the United States, announces the first performance of the Fall 2012 Season for BHdos, the company's pre-professional troupe. On September 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm, the company will perform at Central Park's Charles A. Dana Discover Center. The performance is the closing event of the Harlem Meer Performance Festival. The event is free and information can be found at http://support.centralparknyc.org/site/Calendar/1221481553?view=Detail&id=117125.

Handpicked by Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, the talented pre-professional dancers of Ballet Hispanico's second company form bridges: between the School of Dance and the professional Company, between Ballet Hispanico and the community, and between their own training and careers in dance. Under the guidance of Deputy School Director Nicholas Villeneuve, dancers work with highly-skilled artistic leadership to bring Latino culture to schools, communities and corporations. With engaging and interactive performances, this third season of BHdos leads audiences through an exciting exploration of dance influenced by Spain and Latin America. Each fully-costumed performance features the impressive choreography from the current Ballet Hispanico repertory, including recently debuted works by Eduardo Vilaro and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa.

Celebrating 42 years of dance and culture, Ballet Hispanico is recognized as the nation's preeminent Latino dance organization. Led by Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, Ballet Hispanico explores, preserves and celebrates today's Latino cultures through innovative artistic collaborations, world class dance training and national education and outreach programs. The Ballet Hispanico School of Dance has forged a reputation among the nation's leading training programs, offering a balanced core curriculum in ballet, modern and Spanish dance—a practice unique among America's dance education institutions. As a result, students receive not only a thorough grounding in the primary techniques required for a successful performing career, but also specialized training in the rich and varied Latino dance traditions which, for many, is their cultural heritage. Under the direction of Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro and School Director AnaMaria Correa, students may study the Ballet Hispanico aesthetic via the Adventures in Dance program (ages 2-5), the General Program (ages 6-18), and the Pre-Professional track (ages 8-21). Alumni of the School have gone on to careers in theater, film, and television, as well as careers with leading dance companies such as Ballet Hispanico, Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor, ABT II, and the San Francisco Ballet.
