The New York Dance Festivalwww.nydancefestival.com presented at the Roosevelt Hotel 45 East 45 Street New York, NY Robert Abrams February 29, 2004 Edward Simon, Teka Rae and Michelle Officer once again organized the New York Dance Festival, a local ballroom competition. This is a one day event. This year it was held in the Roosevelt Hotel, which has seen its fair share of dance events, such as a recent Salsa congress. (See our coverage of the 2002 New York Dance Festival.) The Roosevelt hotel is an elegant but intimate venue for a dance event. Edward, Teka and Michelle (who I used to compete with) attracted quite a few excellent dancers who moved with energy and gave the audience a good show. John DePalma, the MC, was as mellifluous as ever. He should read poetry between heats; his voice is that good. The New York Dance Festival is growing nicely. If you are into competitive ballroom dance, put it on your calendar for next year. Here are a few photos shot from up in the first ring above the ballroom.
