COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD was proud to learn of company dancer Valeria Galluccio’s appointment as best Italian dancer abroad for 2015. She was given the distinction by the Italian magazine Danza&Danza.

Since 1987, Danza&Danza has annually awarded performers, choreographers and productions that have distinguished themselves on Italian stages over the year.

Selected by a jury of nine critics from the magazine, Valeria Galluccio received the honour for her performance work with COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD. The jury highlighted technical and expressive talent of the dancer, of Neapolitan origin, who “with her tall slender physique, pierces the intimate and turbulent Chouinard dance like an arrow.”

In the autumn of 2015, the COMPAGNIE completed a major tour in Italy. From Milan to Venice and Rome to Ferrara, nine repertoire works were presented in different evening programs. The jury and Italian audiences were able to enjoy Valeria’s performances in group works Soft virtuosity, still humid, on the edge (2015), GYMNOPÉDIES (2013), HENRI MICHAUX : MOUVEMENTS (2011), bODY_rEMIX/gOLDBERG_vARIATIONS (2005),
24 Preludes by Chopin (1999) and The Rite of Spring (1993).

About Valeria Galluccio

Valeria received her ballet training with Annalisa Cernese. For three years, as part of the Venice Biennale, she danced the works of Ismaël Ivo as main performer before joining COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD in 2011. In addition to the COMPAGNIE’s works for stage, she dances in the film MARIE CHOUINARD: THE RITE OF SPRING.
