Denver Ballet Theatre, Inc. (DBT) a Colorado 501(c) (3) organization, is pleased to announce that it will present Paquita, one of the great ballets of the classical repertoire on April 14-15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the PACE Center in Parker.

With original choreography by Joseph Mazilier and a memorable score composed by Edouard Deldevez and Ludwig Minkus, Paquita tells a romantic Gypsy tale in which young love is tested, yet conquers all.

Paquita was first presented by the Paris Opera Ballet on 1 April, 1846. The following year, in Russia, it became the first work ever staged by the legendary Marius Petipa for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg. Petipa restaged the ballet and created major additions both in 1881 and 1902. However, by this time only Act II had survived. It was not until 2001, when the Paris Opera Ballet hired choreographer and dance historian Pierre Lacotte, that the lost Act I and opening of Act II choreography was recreated in its entirety.

DBT’s production is based on the Lacotte reconstruction, staged by Artistic Director David Taylor and Assistant Director Anastasiya Buechele. Besides an ensemble of over 50 dancers, the stunning full-length production will include lavish costumes, distinctive backdrops, theatrical lighting and three professional guest artists, including two from Colorado Ballet.

Earl Anderson, DBT Founder and Executive Director, commented, “We are proud to be featuring Melissa Zoebisch in the title role of Paquita. As ballet aficionados know, Ms. Zoebisch is an elegant, expressive ballerina with extensive professional performing experience and a member of the Corps de Ballet of Colorado Ballet.”

Ben Winegar, also of Colorado Ballet, will dance the role of Lucien, Paquita’s love interest, and Alexandru Glusacov is featured in the famous Pas de Trois and as Inigo, the Gypsy clan leader.

“The opportunity to perform side-by-side with professionals such as these will provide DBT students with a thrilling and enriching experience,” stated Mr. Anderson.
