On Monday, October 31, 2016 at 7:30pm, Works & Process at the Guggenheim presents a discussion with choreographer Jonah Bokaer and excerpts of Rules Of The Game, a new multidisciplinary work for eight dancers created by Bokaer and scenographer Daniel Arsham. Their largest collaboration yet, Rules Of The Game features an original score by Pharrell Williams, arranged, orchestrated, and co-composed by David Campbell and for musicians of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Guggenheim Museum 1071 Fifth Avenue, New York Jonah Bokaer has worked as a choreographer and exhibiting artist since 2002, creating 57 works in a wide variety of media (dance, video, drawing, motion capture, interactive installation, mobile application, and film.) His work has been produced in venues around the world, including Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Le Festival d’Avignon, Spoleto Festival, La Triennale di Milano, and SOLUNA International Music & Arts Festival. Bokaer has performed his work at the Guggenheim Museum, P.S.1 MoMA, and The New Museum in New York City. Bokaer has collaborated with major artists in a variety of fields including Anne Carson, Merce Cunningham (2000-2007), Robert Gober, Anthony McCall, Tino Sehgal, Lee Ufan (Guggenheim Retrospective 2011), and Robert Wilson (2007-Present). He choreographed many of Robert Wilson’s works, including six operas: Faust (Polish National Opera), Aïda (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma) and On The Beach (Baryshnikov Arts Center). Bokaer has collaborated with visual artist Daniel Arsham on ten works since 2007. In 2015, Bokaer received the United States Artists Fellowship in Choreography (Ford Foundation) and was named a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellow in Choreography, also in 2016. In 2016, he was awarded Italy’s Civitella Ranieri Foundation Fellowship in the Visual Arts category. He is a 2016 Resident Fellow at New York University Center for Ballet and the Arts, for his work with the Royal Ballet of Flanders. Daniel Arsham Scenographer New York based artist Daniel Arsham blurs the line between art, architecture, performance and film. A collaborator with choreographers Merce Cunningham and Jonah Bokaer, he co-founded the design firm Snarkitecture with Alex Mustonen in 2007. Arsham recently established Film the Future, a boundary-bending production company. His work has been exhibited at MOCA, Miami; MoMA PS1 and the New Museum, New York. Pharrell Williams Composer GRAMMY® Award winning and Academy Award nominated musician Pharrell Williams is a creative force, using music, fashion and design to express his distinctive style. His latest venture, i am OTHER, is a multi-media creative collective that serves as an umbrella for all his endeavors, including textile company Bionic Yarn. Williams is also the lead vocalist/drummer of funk/hip hop band N*E*R*D. His single “Happy” was the most successful single in 2014 worldwide. David Campbell Arranger, Conductor, and Co-composer Composer-arranger- conductor David Campbell’s work appears on more than 425 gold/platinum albums, such as #1 hits by Green Day, Evanescence, Dixie Chicks, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Beck and Adele. His film work has earned two Oscars for music. He has guest-conducted Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Dallas, Nashville, Melbourne and Baltimore symphonies, Tokyo Philharmonic, and at the 2000 & 2012 Olympics.
