A creation by Marie Chouinard for the Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be presented in world premiere on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 8 p.m. at the Salle des Princes of the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. This is a second collaboration between the choreographer and the Monaco company, which performed bODY_rEMIX/gOLDBERG_vARIATIONS - act 1 in 2012. Five years later, the choreographer was invited to create a work for this company, directed by Jean-Christophe Maillot. Cy Twombly Somehow brings together some fifteen talented dancers from the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, including Québécois dancer Maude Sabourin, with whom Marie Chouinard had the pleasure of working again in Monaco. In addition to the choreography, Marie Chouinard designed the lighting, sets, costumes and makeup. The music is an original composition by Louis Dufort, with whom the choreographer has worked for over 20 years. Marie Chouinard is a true cultural ambassador for Quebec. She has won several awards for her contribution to arts, including the Walter Carsen Prize for the Excellence in the Performing Arts (Canada, 2016), the Positano Prize “Choreographer of the year” (Italy, 2016), the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement (Canada, 2016), the title of Chevalier of the Ordre national du Québec (2015), the Prix Denise-Pelletier (Quebec, 2010), the title of Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France, 2009), the title of Officer of the Order of Canada (2007) and the Bessie Award (New York, 2000). The name of Marie Chouinard became a dictionary entry in Le Petit Larousse illustré in 2010 and in Le Robert in 2011. Since its founding in 1990, COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD has met with acclaim on stages all over the world. The dancers brilliantly perform a repertoire of daring works created by Marie Chouinard. The COMPAGNIE’s opus also includes a multitude of projects and protean creations in which choreographic art is explored through various media: installation, performance, film, photography, drawing, writing and application. Marie Chouinard is also invited to create for other companies, including the Martha Graham Dance Company (Inner Resources, 2016) and the Ballets de Monte-Carlo ( Cy Twombly Somehow, 2017).
