The Theater 14th Street Y & Bearded Ladies Productions present the 4th Y Cabaret, as part of the Theater/Dance Series curated at The Theater at The 14th Street Y, 344 E. 14th Street, NYC on March 24 & 25, 2018 at 8pm.The Y Cabaret is evening of drinks, dance, and food and features choreographers: Nicole Von Arx, Peter Cheng, Mei Yamanaka, Roya Carreras, Kristen Carcone, BAIRA (formerly BS Movement), and Princess Lockerooo, hosted by Clinton Edward. Tickets are $20 in advance ($22 at the door) and are available at www.14streety.org/tickets. This March performance marks the fourth Y Cabaret at the 14th St Y, and in just three years the Y Cabaret will have showcased 28 dance companies through this program alone. Each Cabaret invites seven choreographers to showcase work both new and old in a welcoming, fun, and safe environment for audiences and artists. Audiences experience the weird, the sensual, the funny, the sexy, and the entertaining in our dance cabaret; and what better way to do that than with a drink in hand? You can get up close and personal with some of the hottest choreographers in town and experience dance outside of the boundaries of traditional performance. Jake McIntye and Larry Daniels (Bearded Ladies Productions) founded the Y Cabaret to give audiences different way to connect with contemporary dance, and choreographers a space to develop work. Having successfully presented other dance shows at the Y, the Y Theater has partnered with BL Productions from the beginning to bring a whole new audience and artists to the Y. About the ArtistsPeter Cheng is a dancer, choreographer, and performer based in New York City. His work has been presented at ODC Theater, the Seattle International Dance Festival, Center Stage Theater, Nebula Dance Lab, SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts, CPRNY, Ailey Studios, 92nd St. Y/Harkness, Judson Church, and 14th St. Y. Cheng currently performs with Lydia Johnson Dance, konverjdans, and recently made his film debut in a comedic short directed by Dan Gregor, appearing alongside Adam Pally, Doug Mand, and Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). peterandco.orgNicole Von Arx is a freelance dancer and choreographer based between Brooklyn and Geneva, Switzerland. As a performer, Nicole was a soloist at the Royal Opera House in London & Chicago Lyric Opera in the critically acclaimed opera Tannhäuser directed by Tim Albery and choreographed by Jasmin Vardimon. She has also worked for Carte Blanche (The Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance), Elena Vazintaris and the Metropolitan Opera. In 2013, she participated in The 6th Copenhagen International Choreography Competition while dancing for the choreographer Bryan Arias winning 1st place and Audience Choice Award. As a choreographer, Nicole has presented her work internationally at the BFM and the Flux Laboratory in Switzerland, and at Reykjavík Culture Night in Iceland. In New York, her choreography appeared at the Museum of Moving Image, Judson Church, the Dance Gallery Festival-Level UP, The Current Sessions, Pushing Progress, the Ailey Citigroup Theatre, the Dumbo Dance Festival, Triskelion and Gowanus Arts. Nicole is currently a performer and Dance Captain for Company XIV and is a company member and choreographer's assistant at Loni Landon Dance Projects. Mei has worked and collaborated with artists including Tiffany Mills, Dendy Donovan Projects, Jennifer Archibald, Katy Pyle, Patricia Noworol, Dai Jian, Catherine Galasso, Oui Danse, Jody Oberfelder Project, among others. Mei's work has been seen at Fresh Tracks at New York Live Arts, Movement Research at Judson Church, "Split Bill" Series at Triskelion Arts, Mix Festival at HERE, and more. Mei was a "Fresh Tracks" residency artist at Dance Theater Workshop(now New York Live Arts) in 2010 - 2011. She was also residency artist at Chez Bushwick Artist In Residence in 2014 at Chez Bushwick. Roya Carreras (Artistic Director / Choreographer) is an Iranian-Hispanic artist, choreographer, and educator who works within commercial, film, and theatrical settings from New York City to Los Angeles. Carreras has created choreography for the Russian feminist protest punk rock group, Pussy Riot, including music videos Straight Out of Vagina and Bad Girls; she has provided talent and movement direction for artists Kiiara, Michael Blume, Jade De LaFleur, and Wolf Colony. On stage, Carreras' work has been presented at the CURRENT SESSIONS, Dixon Place, Baruch Performing Arts Center, and The Green Building in New York City; in California, she has presented at Highways Performance Space, Electric Lodge Theater, Glenn Wallichs Theatre, Diavolo, Brockus Project Space, and BRAVA. As a performer, she has worked closely with Barak Marshall at BodyTraffic, Bryan Arias, Danielle Russo Performance Project, and Lux Boreal Danza Contemporanea in Tijuana, Mexico. Carreras holds a BFA in Dance with Honors from UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts, with additional training from The Ailey School and Springboard Danse Montreal. royacarreras.com Kristen Carcone is a Toronto-born dance artist and reiki healer. She earned her BFA with Highest Honors from New World School of the Arts in 2011 and has since performed internationally in a variety of shows and festivals including: The Phish Concert at Madison Square Garden (New York, NY), Tangente's Danses Buissonnieres (Montreal, Quebec), and The New Prague Dance Festival (Prague, Czech Republic). Kristen is a company member of Third Rail Projects and is currently performing in their award winning production Then She Fell. In 2016, Kristen was named one of the 25 Most Influential Young Choreographers to watch by Narcity Toronto. Her choreography can be seen in Joseph Gordon Levitt's My Favourite Thingsvideo, Cardinal's Pride music video Masterpiece, and in Supa'Nova, a new play by Maria Corina Ramierez. Kristen is Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director of non-profit organization TOES FOR DANCE. Her latest project 4-7-8 has been funded by the Toronto Arts Council and supported by lululemon NY. For more information visit www.kristencarcone.com BAIRA (formerly BS Movement) is the collected and ongoing research of collaborative/creative duo Shaina Branfman Baira and Bryan Strimpel Baira. The couple shares their movement research and philosophy through teaching, performance and lifestyle. Branfman completed her certification as a Movement Analyst at the Laban Institute of Movement Studies. She studied religion and philosophy at the All Faiths Seminary International and is a member of The Feath3r Theory. Strimpel has danced with Nicholas Leichter Dance, Brian Brooks Moving Company, David Dorfman Dance, ThirdRailProjects and is a member of The Feath3r Theory. Branfman and Strimpel teach regularly throughout NYC. They are spending the current season as participants of Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Workspace Program, diving deeper into their founding statement: No matter our differences we all move, so we're all the same. www.bsmovement.co Princess Lockerooo, born and raised in New York City, is a multi-faceted performance artist, producer, and activist. Her talents encompass choreography and artistic direction, music production for stage and film, costume and makeup design, mentorship, and women's empowerment. Lockerooo has been showcased on many of the entertainment industry's leading television platforms (Harry Connick Jr., Wendy Williams, So You Think You Can Dance), has worked with top pop artists (Madonna, Jody Watley, Icona Pop), and has produced entertainment for numerous events across the world (Lincoln Center, Women's Entrepreneurship Day, Summerstage). Lockerooo's work has brought her to many parts of the world, with her touring throughout Asia, Europe, and beyond.
