COMMENTARY: Nederlands Dans Theater 1 at 2020 Holland Dance Festival

Holland Dance Festival is held once in the two years in January and February. The festival had a successful performance by the Batseva Company and the Italian company Aterballetto. The highlight of the festival came at the very end. After five years of absence Nederlands Dans Theater 1 performed on the evening of February 6 with only Jiri Kylian’s ballets. Vanishing Twins (2008), Claude Pascal (2002) and Bella Figura (1995) were danced, and how! It was exciting that the NDT dancers of today could perform Kylian’s choreographies, since they were not familiar to do so for such a long time and knew how difficult they are. We were absolutely not disappointed, the performance exceeded all expectations, it made us long for more. Kylian’s ballets are about sensuality, beauty and love and are sexy, which is seldom seen in present-day programming.
