Johnny's Hideaway

DanceSpot review by Robert Abrams
July 17, 2003

I was looking for Swing on a Thursday night in Atlanta. The only place I could find was Johnny's Hideaway. Sometimes you only need one. The place was packed. The DJ was spinning great tunes in a variety of dance styles. Most of the crowd was older than I am, but not dramatically so.

I ended up having the opportunity to dance with a woman who, if I may be permitted some hyperbole, embodied all that is good about the South, including beauty, elegance, style, and precise and responsive dance technique. She, and most of the other people there, come to dance at Johnny's Hideaway fairly regularly.

Maybe they come for the food too. I had the catfish. It was prepared fried, but was still very light and flaky. It was filling, flavorful, reasonably priced and the service was deserving of a generous tip.

Johnny's Hideaway is located at 3771 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA. Call them at 404-233-8026 or find them on the web at www.johnnyshideaway.com. They are open seven nights a week. They open at around 6 pm for dancing (although since I have only been there once, you might want to call first to check start times for specific nights) and stay open late. There is no cover charge and they provide free valet parking.
