Midsummer Night Swing - Merengue night with Joaquin Diaz and Merengue Tipico, with dance lesson by You Should Be Dancing dance studio

It was a beautiful night on the Plaza at Lincoln Center. Not too hot, not too cold, not too humid. Considering the crazy, record breaking weather we had in June, the weather was just about miraculous. The dancing followed suit. The evening started with a dance lesson taught by Tammy and Ricardo from You Should Be Dancing dance studio (located at 412 8th Avenue - call them at 212-244-0011 for lessons). They gave clear guidance to a full dance floor of students. You can see from the pictures below that most of the students were following the lesson well.

Joaquin Diaz and Merengue Tipico took the stage and kept the music going until 10 pm with only one short break. They played one lively Merengue after another. The dance floor was always full. The best dancers there used an economy of motion. They were calm in the midst of the rapid rhythm swirling around them. Watching them and trying to borrow from their style helped me get the most out of my dancing tonight.

Midsummer Night Swing is every Wednesday through Saturday, with tickets available starting at 6 pm. You can also purchase tickets at www.lincolncenter.org, or by calling 212-721-6500. I strongly advise that you buy tickets or passes in advance. Dance lessons start at 6:30 pm with dancing starting at 7:30 pm until 10 pm.
