It was another fun night at Taj for Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Hustle. The place was packed. There was a mad, hot Salsa performance by Winsome & Rodney Lopez. Tonight I shot with my Pentax Optio W30. As can be seen from the photos below, it takes decent flash pictures. On the plus side, it is small enough to fit in a pocket. On the minus side, Pentax is not so good about honoring their warranties, and it takes five to six seconds for the auto-focus to lock in dim light. Thus while the camera is a point and shoot camera in daylight, in dim light it is a point and shoot and pray camera: given the long delay between when the shutter release is pressed and when the shutter actually fires, there is no way of predicting what the dancers in the viewfinder will be doing when the picture is finally taken, so you have to just pray that the camera will fire at a moment when they are doing something interesting. If you haven't checked it out yet, be sure to come on down to Taj some Monday night and do something interesting. If you need something interesting to wear to Taj, check out the outfits put together by Talia Castro-Pozo, one of the organizers of Taj Salsa Mondays and a dance teacher at Stepping Out Studios.
