My wife and I took two 1-hour introductory sessions on Hustle with Robert Vance at Club 412 last Saturday. Robert is a really great instructor and I can understand why he has such a great reputation. During the first session, he broke down all the basic hustle movements starting from marching in place, rock step and all the way to basic turns. He also pointed out some nuances that normally get glossed over by less capable instructors such as how to effectively shift one's weight and how to maintain balance. In the second session that immediately followed, he took us through some very basic dance fundamentals such as proper posture and positioning of the feet, to turning, spinning and spotting. Indeed, it felt very much like a ballet class. I've never taken dance classes, let alone ballet classes, so this was indeed a new experience for me, and certainly more physically challenging than I imagined. At the end of the session, we were all sweating and dizzy from the spinning and turning (I still have to learn this spotting thing), but Robert seemed like he hadn't even warmed up.
Thanks very much again for referring us to Club 412. My wife and I have developed a much greater appreciation for dance in our few sessions at the club.
