Energy, imagination, and a good dose of humor are prevalent in the dances of choreographer John Heginbotham, an acclaimed dancer with the Mark Morris Dance Group for the past two decades. As a performer "Heginbotham has always been a wonder at the tricky combination of class clown/poet — the truth-telling jester" (Boston Phoenix) and these qualities are also found in his choreography.
Dance Heginbotham, his dynamic ensemble, made an auspicious Pillow debut as part of the Inside/Out series last season. This year, they return with highly musical, imaginative, darkly comedic dance works. In Twin, a work about the peculiarities of shared birth, a cast of vivid characters comes to life in a musical environment created by British electronica composer Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin). Closing Bell is a rigorously athletic brainteaser of a dance set to a lively score by the contemporary American composer Tyondai Braxton.
