For more than fifty years, works by José Limón have been performed by companies around the world, including the Royal Danish Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Paris Opera Ballet, Bayerisches Staatsballett of Munich and more. Now, approaching the Company's 70th Anniversary, the José Limón Dance Foundation will bring to New York professional companies and important schools from abroad and the U.S. for a Grand Celebration of the works of the legendary choreographer, for two weeks, October 13 - 25, 2015 at the Joyce Theater. The Limón Dance Company and guests will appear in four different programs, three performances each. The invited schools will perform two different programs, also two performances each. All works have been staged by authorized Limón reconstructors, including Company Artistic Director Carla Maxwell, Sarah Stackhouse, Jennifer Scanlon, Gary Masters, Nina Watt, Kristen Foote, Roxane D'Orleans Juste, and Stephen Pier. Founded in 1946 by José Limón and Doris Humphrey, the Limón Dance Company has been at the vanguard of American Modern Dance since its inception and maintains its standing as one of the world's greatest Modern Dance companies. The dances selected for the Festival reflect a span of Limón's creative output over the years, as well as the timelessness and humanity so cherished in his body of work. www.limon.orgGUEST COMPANIES ROYAL DANISH BALLET / Copenhagen, Denmark Nikolaj Hubbe, Director COREOARTE / Caracas, Venezuela Noris Ugeuto, Director sjDANCEco / San Jose, CA Gary Masters, Director AMERICAN REPERTORY BALLET / Princeton, NJ Douglas Martin, Director The Next Generation Programs and the Limón Project Directors Canadian Contemporary Dance Theater / Toronto, Canada Deborah Lundmark The Hartt School / West Hartford, CT Stephen Pier/Nina Watt The Juilliard School / New York City, NY Lawrence Rhodes National Institute of the Arts / New Taipei, Taiwan Ruping Wang Tisch School of the Arts at NYU/ New York City, NY Sean Curran North Carolina School of the Arts / Winston-Salem, NC Sean Sullivan Southern Methodist University / Dallas, Texas Patty Delaney Sinaloa Dance School / Sinaloa, Mexico Hector Chavez University of Arizona / Tucson, AZ Doug Nielsen REPERTORY "Mazurkas" (1958) Limón Dance Company (Program A) and sjDanceco (Program C) "Dialogues" (1951) Limón Dance Company "The Exiles" (1950) Bayerisches Staatsballett "Missa Brevis" (1958) Limón Dance Company "The Unsung" (1970) Royal Danish Ballet dancers Charles Andersen, Gabor Baunloch, and Gregory Dean joining the Limon Dance Company "The Moors Pavane" (1949) Limón Dance Company "The Winged" (1966) Limón Dance Company "Carlota" (1972) Limón Dance Company "There is a Time" (1956) American Repertory Ballet "Orfeo" (1972) Limón Dance Company "Chaconne" (1942) CoreoArte "Dances for Isadora" (1971) Limón Dance Company "The Traitor" (1954) Limón Dance Company PROGRAMSProgram A - October 13 & 14 at 7:30 PM; October 15 at 8 PM * "Mazurkas" - Limón Dance Company * "The Moor's Pavane" - Limon Dance Company * "Missa Brevis" - Limón Dance Company Program B - October 16 & 17 at 8 PM; October 18 at 2 PM * "The Unsung" - Limón Dance Company joined by dancers from the Royal Danish Ballet * "The Moor's Pavane" - Limón Dance Company * "The Winged" - Limón Dance Company Program C - October 20 & 21 at 7:30 PM; October 22 at 8 PM * "Mazurkas" - sjDANCEco * "Carlota" - Limón Dance Company * "There is a Time" - American Repertory Ballet Program D - October 23 & 24 at 8 PM; October 25 at 2 PM * "Orfeo" - Limón Dance Company * "Chaconne" - CoreoArte * "Dances for Isadora" - Limón Dance Company * "The Traitor" - Limón Dance Company SCHOOL PERFORMANCESProgram 1 - October 17 at 2 PM; October 18 at 7:30 PM * "Concerto Grosso" (trio) (1945) - The Juilliard School * "Psalm" (1967) - The Hartt School/University of Hartford * "Mazurkas" (suite) (1958) - NYU Tisch School of the Arts * "A Choreographic Offering" (suite) (1964) - Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura and University of Taipei Program 2 - October 24 at 2 PM; October 25 at 7:30 PM * "Concerto Grosso" (for 9 dancers) (1945) - The University of North Carolina School of the Arts * "The Winged" (excerpts) (1966) - Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre * "The Unsung" (1970) - University of Arizona * "There is a Time" (1956) - Southern Methodist University October 13-25 The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue Tickets: $10-$60 Reservations: 212.242.0800 or www.joyce.org
