On Thursday, June 16, the Chamber Dance Project’s dancers team up with local band Brass Connections for a free preview of their new hip-hop dance at the Plaza at CityCenter. The performance is part of the Chamber Dance Project’s 2016 season, Brass & Ballet, June 23 - 26 at the Lansburgh Theatre. This event will include a free short dance lesson from Chamber Dance Project dancers. Also performing at CityCenterDC is DC’s favorite street band Brass Connections. Chamber Dance Project is dedicated to sharing its art and exposing it to a diverse audience not otherwise afforded the opportunity. The work is a celebration of outstanding artists and designers collaborating on works which have a contemporary relevance and resonance. The Chamber Dance Project is devoted to supporting the creation of new choreographic works and musical scores and to their performance with other contemporary works onstage as well as in film. The project utilizes the intimate and interactive settings of the rehearsal studio, educational classroom and the theater to share the creative process with audiences. Diane Coburn Bruning, Founder and Artistic Director, is an award-winning choreographer who has worked with professional ballet, theatre and opera companies throughout the U.S. and abroad. She has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, fellowships from The National Endowment for the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, Sundance Film Institute, McKnight Foundation, Strauss Foundation and Virginia Arts Commission, among many others. Since relocating from New York, she has worked as a choreographer with the Washington National Opera, Woolly Mammoth, Studio Theater, Shakespeare Theatre Company and Solas Nua, with whom she received a Helen Hayes nomination. Diane is a graduate of Jordan College of Arts of Butler University, NYU and held a one-year fellowship to Yale University where she studied with renowned designers Jennifer Tipton and Ming Cho Lee. Diane has been a guest artist at over thirty colleges and universities and teaches choreography at George Mason University. Chamber Dance Project is supported by New Music USA.
