On Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 7pm, WHITE WAVE Dance will celebrate the 18th Anniversary season of the DUMBO Dance Festival (DDF) with a Gala Opening, heralding the most anticipated four-day festival of contemporary dance in the greater New York City region. Committed to developing dance as an important art form, WHITE WAVE scours the globe in search of the most innovative of today's dance makers, both emerging and established, and brings them to Brooklyn for one extended weekend of 11 different programs. For four nights and three days, dance lovers will experience a veritable cornucopia of the best of contemporary dance. The evening will be hosted by a guest celebrity (TBA). We have selected two of our most distinguished supporters to honor the great impact they have had in furthering our mission this year. Their opening remarks will be followed by six stunning contemporary dance troupes: CARMELO SEGURA DANCE COMPANY (Spain), Augusto Soledade Brazzdance (FL), Jennifer Muller | The Works (NY), Ballet Clasico Alina Abreu (Dominican Republic), Buglisi Dance Theatre (NY), WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company (NY). Afterwards, the audience will enjoy a reception with a buffet dinner of exotic Korean cuisine and a fabulous raffle (including gourmet wine baskets, “dinner for two” at local DUMBO eateries and much more)! Tickets are $100 and $250 (VIP seating) per person; all proceeds raised will directly offset WHITE WAVE’s production costs for our 2018/19 Season. ARTISTIC DIRECTORYoung Soon Kim, Artistic Director of WHITE WAVE Dance, is a nationally and internationally acclaimed choreographer, whose work has been hailed for its exhilarating, visually stunning, and emotionally rich phrases and textures. In addition to her role as a performer and Artistic Director, Ms. Kim initiated a series of dance festivals after creating WHITE WAVE John Ryan Theater in DUMBO, Brooklyn, in 2001. She has since become one of the most recognized producers/curators in New York City. Kim also served as a juror for New York City Department of City Affairs in 2006 and as an apprentice for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in 2014. After featured at the 2017 La MaMa Moves! ABOUT GELSEY KIRKLAND ARTSCENTERGK Arts Center is a 20,000 square foot performance space with a 308 seat theater, and 4 spacious column free studios located in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Theater rental and studio rental are available for theatrical performances (dance, music, theater and opera), stage & studio rehearsals, classes, workshops, photo, film & video shoots, corporate events and receptions. The theater has a rep lighting plot. All studios have 32 foot ceilings and are outfitted with marley sprung floors, mirrors, state of the art sound systems and ballet barres for dance.
