There are many Salsa parties in New York City to choose from and each has a characteristic style. The new Havana Nights party at Club 412 might be best summed up as a smile, an ease and a flourish. Almost like a Latin version of West Coast. There appeared to be a range of dancers, from beginners to masters. Everyone was relaxed and having a good time, whether dancing or watching the dancing. The atmosphere was very welcoming, just like everything else about You Should Be Dancing and Club 412. Club 412's full bar was open for business.

Since this was the first running of this party, the organizers were only using half of the big room. This was a wise choice, as it kept the energy focused. I arrived around 10:30 pm and left around 11:30 pm. The floor was always full, but with enough room for people to express themselves.

DJ David Medina spun one lively Salsa tune after another. At one point a large rueda circle broke out.

This party may have had a smaller attendance than some other more established parties, but the organizers have clearly gotten a lot right on the first try. I have no doubt that the party will get even better. If you are into Latin dance, Havana Nights Friday at Club 412 is worth checking out.
